Mallorca is a classic for a reason. Short flights from much of Europe, shallow turquoise bays, family hotels with splash pools and kids clubs, and a beautiful capital city make it one of the easiest family holidays in the Mediterranean.

Where to stay in Mallorca with kids

  • Alcúdia: a huge, shallow, sandy bay with a flat promenade and the old walled town nearby. The ultimate toddler beach.
  • Port de Pollença: a calm bay with a pine-lined seafront walk and a quieter feel.
  • Cala d’Or & the east coast: small coves with clear water and family resorts.
  • Palma: city life, the cathedral, the aquarium and urban beaches. Great for a few nights.
  • Santa Ponsa: a family-friendly bay in the southwest, close to the water parks.

The best things to do in Mallorca with kids

  1. Beach days in the north. Alcúdia and Muro beaches are shallow far out from the shore.
  2. Palma Aquarium. Sharks, a jungle zone and play areas. Perfect for a hot or windy day.
  3. Water parks. Aqualand El Arenal and Western Water Park have toddler areas and big slides.
  4. The Sóller train. A vintage wooden train from Palma through the mountains to Sóller, then a tram to the port.
  5. Coves del Drach. Huge caves with an underground lake and a short concert. There are many steps, so bring a carrier.
  6. Palma Cathedral & old town. Wander the lanes and eat ice cream by the seafront.

Getting around Mallorca

  • Car hire: the easiest way to explore. Add child seats.
  • TIB buses: connect Palma with the main resorts.
  • Palma airport: 15 minutes to the city and about an hour to the north.

Where to eat with kids

  • Ensaïmada: a fluffy spiral pastry for breakfast.
  • Pa amb oli: bread with tomato and olive oil.
  • Paella and tapas: great for sharing.
  • Dinner is late, so plan a substantial lunch and an early evening snack.

Parent tips for Mallorca

  • July and August are hot and busy. June and September are ideal for families.
  • Pharmacies are excellent and many staff speak English.
