San Diego is sunny, relaxed and packed with things kids love: a world-famous zoo, beaches with calm bays, sea lions lounging on the rocks, an aircraft carrier to explore and Legoland just up the coast. The mild climate means it works almost any time of year.

Where to stay in San Diego with kids

  • Mission Bay: calm bay beaches, grassy parks and playgrounds, and resorts with pools. Perfect with toddlers.
  • Coronado: a wide, flat, sandy beach and a small-town feel across the bay.
  • Downtown & Little Italy: central, walkable, and close to the USS Midway and harbour cruises.
  • La Jolla: beautiful coves, tide pools and sea lions, but pricier.
  • Carlsbad: for families focused on Legoland.

The best things to do in San Diego with kids

Where to eat with kids

  • Fish tacos: a San Diego classic.
