Jet lag tips for babies & toddlers

  • Daylight is your best friend. Get outside in the morning at your destination.
  • Keep routines familiar: same sleeping bag, same songs, same white noise.
  • Cap long naps on day 1–2 so night sleep still happens.
  • Expect a 2am party or two. Keep lights low and voices boring.

Frequently asked questions

How long does jet lag last for babies?

A common rule of thumb is about one day per hour of time difference, though babies often adapt faster than adults, especially with plenty of daylight and consistent routines.

Is it better to fly east or west with a baby?

Flying west (making the day longer) is usually easier. Flying east means bedtime comes earlier, which is harder, so shifting sleep earlier in the days before travel helps.
