This itinerary is built the way we actually travel with little ones: one main activity a day, a park or playground, and time to rest. Swap days around depending on the weather, and keep the jet-lag day gentle.

Base yourself near Tokyo Station, Asakusa or west Shinjuku. Read our Tokyo with kids guide for neighbourhood tips.

Day 1: Arrive & ease in (Asakusa)

  • Land at Haneda, transfer to the hotel and nap.
  • Late afternoon: stroll through Senso-ji temple and Nakamise Street (stroller-OK, but busy).
  • Walk along the Sumida River at sunset, with views of the Tokyo Skytree.
  • Easy dinner: konbini picnic or a family restaurant.

Day 2: Ueno Park, zoo & museums

  • Morning at Ueno Zoo. Itโ€™s fully stroller-friendly.
  • Lunch in the park or at Ueno stationโ€™s food court.
  • Afternoon: National Museum of Nature and Science, with dinosaurs and a hands-on kids area.
  • Back to the hotel for a rest.

Day 3: Tokyo Disneyland

  • Arrive at opening. Buy tickets online in advance, as theyโ€™re date-specific.
  • Use the Baby Center for changing, nursing and warming food.
  • Pick a midday rest spot. Many families pop back to a nearby hotel.

Day 4: Harajuku, Yoyogi Park & Shibuya

  • Morning picnic and playground at Yoyogi Park.
  • Visit Meiji Jingu shrine on gravel paths (carrier is easier).
  • Afternoon toy shopping at Kiddy Land in Harajuku.
  • Watch the Shibuya Scramble from a cafรฉ above the crossing.

Day 5: teamLab Planets & Toyosu

  • Book a morning slot at teamLab Planets. Youโ€™ll be barefoot and wading, so bring a carrier for babies.
  • Lunch at Lalaport Toyosu (great baby rooms).
  • Afternoon: Kidzania Tokyo for ages 3+, or the waterfront park with sea views.

Day 6: Ghibli Museum & Inokashira Park

  • Timed entry to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka (book the day tickets release).
  • Walk through Inokashira Park with its swan boats, playground and small zoo.
  • Head back for an early dinner.

Day 7: Odaiba or Yokohama day trip

  • Option A: Odaiba. Waterfront beach park, the giant Gundam statue and indoor play at shopping malls.
  • Option B: Yokohama (30 minutes by train). The Cup Noodles Museum (make your own!) and the Anpanman Childrenโ€™s Museum for toddlers.
  • Final souvenir run at a department store toy floor.

Frequently asked questions

Is 7 days in Tokyo too long with kids?

No. Seven days lets you go at a toddler's pace, one big activity per day plus a park or rest, with room for a Disney day and a day trip.

Should we do Disneyland or DisneySea with young kids?

For under-5s, Disneyland has more gentle rides and characters. DisneySea is more atmospheric and better for slightly older kids. If you only have one day, choose Disneyland for toddlers.
