One week, two very different worlds. Start with the energy of Istanbul, then slow down among Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys. This itinerary keeps travel days short and leaves room for naps.

Route: Istanbul (4 nights) → ✈️ → Cappadocia (3 nights)

Day 1: Arrive in Istanbul

  • Pre-booked transfer (with a car seat) to Sultanahmet or Karaköy.
  • Evening stroll through Gülhane Park and an easy dinner of köfte and rice.

Day 2: Sultanahmet highlights

  • Early visit to Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque (carrier recommended).
  • Nap break at the hotel.
  • Afternoon at Topkapı Palace gardens, or the Basilica Cistern if it’s hot.

Day 3: Ferries & the Asian side

  • Ferry from Eminönü to Kadıköy. Kids love feeding the seagulls.
  • Explore Kadıköy market, then walk the seaside promenade to Moda for playgrounds and ice cream.
  • Sunset ferry back.

Day 4: Princes’ Islands

  • Morning ferry to Büyükada (around 90 minutes from Kabataş, depending on the service).
  • Hire bikes with child seats or ride the electric buggies, then picnic by the sea.
  • Early night: you’re flying tomorrow.

Day 5: Fly to Cappadocia

  • Short flight to Kayseri or Nevşehir, then transfer to Göreme or Uçhisar.
  • Settle into your cave hotel and catch a sunset at Sunset Point (Göreme).

Day 6: Balloons & valleys

  • Sunrise balloon watching from your hotel terrace or a viewpoint. Hundreds of balloons, no age limit!
  • Short walk in Love Valley or Rose Valley (choose a flat section).
  • Afternoon pottery workshop in Avanos. Kids get to try the wheel.

Day 7: Göreme Open-Air Museum & home

  • Early visit to the Göreme Open-Air Museum (rock-cut churches, uneven paths).
  • Gentle horse ride for older kids.
  • Transfer to the airport.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get from Istanbul to Cappadocia with kids?

Fly. It's about 1h20 from Istanbul (IST or SAW) to Kayseri or Nevşehir, then a 40–60 minute transfer. Overnight buses exist but aren't fun with little ones.

Is Cappadocia worth it with a toddler?

Yes, if you plan for it. Choose a cave hotel with few steps, watch the balloons from your terrace, and mix short walks with horse rides, pottery and pool time.

Keep planning
